Chicago Woman to Attempt Guinness World Record in Stair Climbing
July 26, 2005
From Press Release

Chicago resident, Bernadette Duychak, will attempt the Guinness World Record in Stair Climbing for the highest vertical height climbed during a 24 hour period Saturday, July 30, at a 54 story condominium building in downtown Chicago.

Duychak plans to climb 50,000 stairs, or an equivalent of approximately 35 trips up the Sears Tower. Duychak plans to climb Harbor Point, a 54- story condominium building in downtown Chicago, 70 times consecutively.

Duychak states, "I have been climbing stairs just about every day for the past two years. When I first started, I could barely climb 20 floors. Now I climb a minimum of 2,000 floors a week. I love it! It's a wonderful way to get in shape and with stair climbing; I'm actually going somewhere as opposed to climbing up and down a machine at the health club. Stair climbing is also much better on my joints than running. In addition, the energy that comes from climbing stairs is amazing."

Duychak is a resident of Chicago and an Account Supervisor at McCann-Erickson Advertising Agency. She also is an Adjunct Professor at Olivet Nazarene University and a Doctoral Student at Argosy University.

The attempt will take place at a high-rise condominium building located at 155 N. Harbor Drive. The event will begin early in the morning and will continue for 24 hours. This achievement in Stair Climbing will be new to the Guinness World Record Book since no record currently is in place for this stair climbing event.
