Close to 60 runners braved chilly temperatures and have the bragging rights to running in the first snowfall (okay, so it was snow flurries), but it was darn cold at Cricket Hill for the Mizuno/Universal Sole Cross Country Series finale on Saturday in Lincoln Park.

From start to about 200 yards from the finish, Chicagoans Jeremy Borling (#28) and Cameron Stuber (#29) ran together. Coming down the hill toward the finish line of the 5K race, Borling edged Stuber, winning in 16:01.7 to Stuber's 16:02.1.

Borling had this to say about the race, "It was cold! But it was a lot of fun, and I was happy to see how many people showed up despite the weather." Borling is training for the December 7 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships to be held in Bryan Park - Greensboro, NC with the Universal Sole team and was happy to have a good race on the grass. " . . . especially after running terribly on the same course a month ago at the Loyola Lakefront Invite. You really get spoiled running on all the flat road courses in and around Chicago, so it's good to mix it up once in a while and grind out a tough race on grass."

Stuber did his best, but couldn't answer Borling's last kick. "He's tough," Stuber said. "I kept throwing in surges and couldn't shake him."

Mike Egle, 41, of Des Plaines, finished third overall in 16:51.

When Erin Hagen (photo) and her Mom decided to come to Chicago to do some holiday shopping she thought she'd jump into a local race. "I read about the race on-line," said the 18-year-old University of Missouri senior. "It was a great course, but the last section was pretty cold with the wind coming off the lake."

Hagan led the whole race, winning in 20:17. Judy Havlicek, 32, from Chicago, finished second in 20:29, and finishing third was Run Chicago Coach, Lynn Vocelka, 45, from LaGrange Park in 20:51. This was a tune up for Vocelka who plans to run in the USA National Masters Cross Country Championship on Nov. 23 in Holmdel, NJ.
