Inaugural Windy City Relay is this Sunday, May 16
May 14, 2004
From press release

Chicago, IL - Running Away is recreating the fun of recess with a new event: the Windy City Relay. Taking place on Sunday May 16, 2004 at 8 a.m., runners will begin just South of Soldier's Field and continue south on the lakefront path to 31st Street and back to 18th Street.

How does the relay work? You and a partner are teamed up to run a combined 10K (6.2 miles). One person runs the first 5K then hands off the timing-chip ankle band to the other person who will run the second 5K. The fastest combined team time will be the winner.

While there's a lot of partnership involved, no worries - each participant gets their own shwag, which includes a lot of good stuff, such as: a Coolmax T-shirt, water bottle, Coolmax hat and a mini FM stereo walkman for the first 500 participants all wrapped in a cinched nylon bag.

There are different categories you can enter under: all male, all female, co-ed, married with children, and parent and child. Or, register alone; Running Away will partner you up on race day.

A post race feast will include food from Gibsons Steak House, Scoozi!, The Four Seasons Hotel, Carols Cookies, and The Renaissance Chicago Hotel. Runners will be able to share their stories and enjoy the food immediately after the race in a tent located between Soldiers Field and lake front.
